Skating in Rio

The Prefeitura of Rio City has created some skateboard dedicated spaces to encourage skaters off the dangerous roads of Rio. So here is a rough break down of the best places to go:

Aterro do Flamengo
Flamengo Park near the sea to keep things cooler. There are ramps an rails.

Rio Sul bowl, Botafogo
A hardcore bowl in front of the Rio Sul shopping centre. Not for amateurs so watch out!

Vista Chinesa, Alto da Boa Vista
This is a downhill ‘course’ at Vista Chinesa, in the Tijuca Forest. This is for speed freaks and adrenaline seekers.

Praça Quinze, Centro
Although this is not an official skate spot it has plenty of smooth concrete in the heart of Centro. Great for freestylers.

Citta America, Barra
Citta America have provided their own skate park with a skate ramp.

Parque dos Patins, Lagoa
The annual world championship is hosted at this spot but is very much enjoyed by roller skaters for the rest of the year. The other side of the tennis courts is a bowl also used by skaters and BMX riders. A disused 5 aside football pitch has also been taken over by the freestylers with junk to rail and ollie.

Parque Garota de Ipanema, Arpoador
This is killer skate spot on the hill.  It is very secluded and surrounded by beautiful beaches and with two skating bowls.

Largo da Segunda-Feira, Tijuca
In the centre of Tijuca is a well-known locals hang out. Similar to Praça Quinze it's all about the freestyle and street skating. At weekends the area fills up with trick-pulling riders.
