Want to hear something different besides samba? Now, you can check out carimbó chamegado, which in a nutshell can be described as sensual yet lively beats. Now you can have the opportunity to hear it live at the latest event at Caixa Cultural. We recommend seeing Dona Onete and even though she is not all over the radio waves, she is powerful in her own rite, being known as the diva of the carimbó chamegado which will take you to different and authentic facets of Brazil.
With her strong voice at 75 years old, Dona Onete comes from Pará with history of being a singer, composer, and poet. Carimbó is a genre of music that originated from indigenous with Afro-Brazilian roots. She will be singing her hits from her album “Feitiço Caboclo” which she recorded when she was 72 years old. You will hear songs such as “Proposta indecente”, “Amor brejeiro”, “Poder da sedução”, “Moreno Morenado”, “Feitiço Caboclo”, and “Jamburana”.
You don’t have to travel north of Brazil to be exposed to different music, as Rio is filled with diversity that welcomes all facets of Brazil.
