Before the singer songwriter she is now, Amani Henry’s first form of artistic expression was through poetry. Using literary art to escape the pressures of life, she found rhythm in her poems but due to lack of confidence at the time she refrained from singing publicly. Influenced by music her mother played around the house while growing up it wasn’t till her final year at primary school that she tried her hand at singing. Securing a lead role in a school production was all it took for her start believing and pursue a career in music.

Inspired by artists such as Michael Jackson, Stevie Wonder, Prince, Kate Bush, The Beatles and reggae music her grandparents used to play, Amani states she owes what she has become to them and each has influenced her in a different type of way.

When asked about her debut single ‘Colours’,  Amani response was ‘I wrote Colours as a poem  when I was 14 , I was being bullied at the time and changed my appearance a few times, never thinking I was good enough for whoever it is I was trying to be. This song means a lot to me as I have overcome many things’

Currently gigging regularly around London and already tipped as a bright prospect for 2014, Amani Henry’s debut single ‘Colours’ is out on the 4th of April.
